Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman has confirmed that he’s looking to deputize residents with gun licenses — particularly retired law enforcement or military veterans — to become provisional special deputy sheriffs in the event of a county-wide emergency like a hurricane.
The county is seeking applicants who would assume powers if Blakeman declares a state of emergency.
