Babylon case puts bail laws in spotlight

Gov. Kathy Hochul. (Mike Groll/Office of Governor Kathy Hochul)

Gov. Hochul and Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney are sparing over charging decision and bail in the Babylon body parts case.
The four suspects were charged with concealing a human corpse, along with other charges, were placed on supervised release, with GPS monitoring without having to post bail due to what Tierney called nonsensical bail laws.
Hochul said instead of blaming the law, perhaps prosecutors should have investigated more thoroughly before leveling charges, giving them a chance to bring higher charges against the suspects.
