John Howell of Hicksville was arrested Saturday afternoon after a Hours-long standoff. Officers say Howell physically assaulted a male and female victim and threatened them with a knife before barricading himself inside a Hicksville home. Authorities say he refused to allow officers inside the residence or to let the female victim leave.
The Nassau County Police Hostage Negotiation Team communicated with the female victim over the telephone and were eventually able to help her escape.
Police found the suspect hiding in the attic. He faces several charges including assault, possession of weapon and unlawful imprisonment.
