The MTA is restoring express train service on the Long Island Rail Road with three new morning and three new evening rush hour express trains into Penn Station for commuters on the North Shore.

Thousands of people complained to the transit agency and elected officials after the MTA said it was eliminating express train service to Penn Station for North Shore residents.

The MTA says it reversed course because commuters made it clear that canceling the service would make life harder for them.

The express trains will return when Grand Central – Madison service starts, which is scheduled before the end of the year.
