Hempstead landlord charged with criminally negligent homicide

Daryle McClenic the landlord of the Hempstead home that caught fire Monday morning is facing charges of negligence after one of his tenants died and another two were injured.

Authorities say that a female victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while a male victim was taken to a hospital for treatment to burns sustained to his face, hands and arms. A second male victim, who jumped from a second story window to escape the flames, was also taken to an area hospital for minor injuries to his ankles.

McClenic who lives in the house next door to the one where the fire broke out, was arrested following an investigation and charged with criminally negligent homicide for not having smoke detectors.
