Man struck by lightning on Long Island

Commack, NY- At least one person was injured Monday, when a powerful cold front moved across Long Island. Officials tell us a 26-year-old man was in the backyard of his mother’s home on Grace Park Drive in Commack, when lightning struck a tree and traveled to his leg.  Suffolk Police say the man was alert and conscious when first responders arrived to the scene around 2:05pm. The injured man was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
