NEW YORK (AP) — “A Strange Loop” has dominated the Tony Awards. The irreverent, sexually outspoken production about Blackness and queerness won the best new musical award at last night’s ceremony in New York. Voters celebrated Broadway’s most racially diverse season by choosing Michael R. Jackson’s production about a Black gay man writing a show about a Black gay man. Jackson got another honor: best book for a musical. In an interesting twist, Michael R. Jackson’s musical beat out “MJ,” a bio-musical about the late pop star Michael Jackson. “MJ” did win awards for Myles Frost as best lead actor and for best choreography.
