Smithtown, NY- A wrong-way driver was arrested early Wednesday morning in Smithtown on charges including DWI, after police say he stopped at a gas station and stole beer. Officials say first they got a 911 call about a wrong-way driver traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Veterans Memorial Highway. A few minutes later, another 911 call, this one about a man stealing two cases of beer from a Speedway gas station located at 522 Smithtown Bypass. Police say when they arrived at the gas station they apprehended the suspect, Lance Broussand. Broussand, 37, of Hauppauge, was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Petit Larceny.
