Commack, NY- Suffolk County Police are asking the public to help identify a man who was caught on surveillance video, attacking a mom with a young child. Officials say it all happened in the Michael’s parking lot on Veterans Memorial Highway on February 15th at approximately 2:30pm. That’s when the unidentified man came up from behind and struck the woman in the head as she was placing her 2-year-old daughter in the car. Police then say the man then displayed what appeared to be a gun and ordered the woman into the backseat, took her cell phone and demanded her keys. The woman handed over her phone but hit the panic button on her key fob and that’s when police say the suspect took off on foot heading eastbound through the parking lot.
The suspect has been described as Hispanic, 6ft tall approximately 50 years old. Anyone with information is asked to call Suffolk County Police Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
