Coram, NY- A Middle Island man was arrested Sunday night in Coram after police say he was driving with controlled substances and minors in his car. Detectives say Yonnel Ricketts, 30, of Middle Island, was driving on Middle Country Rd near County Club Drive when he veered into the center turning lane and crashed into a 2014 Cadillac SUV. Ricketts, 12-year-old stepson was in the vehicle at the time of the crash along with four other males ages 13, 14, & 15. Ricketts was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Two of the four children were transported to the hospital for minor injuries. The other two children were released to family members. The driver of the Cadillac SUV was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue with minor injuries.
Ricketts, was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 4th Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree, Criminal Contempt 1st Degree, and four counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. He was also issued numerous summonses for vehicle and traffic violations.
