PD: Investigate crashes involving stolen vehicles

(East Farmingdale, NY)- Suffolk County Police are investigating two motor vehicle accidents involving stolen vehicles that happened Thursday night along Jericho Turnpike in the Commack-East Northport area.

Officials say a stolen 2021 GMC Terrain crashed into a utility pole in front of 1045 West Jericho Turnpike in Commack just before 10pm. West Jericho Turnpike was closed in both directions for several hours for the police investigation and utility repairs. A 16-year-old male occupant was taken into custody and transported to Stony Brook University for treatment of minor injuries. Kyle Stewart, 20, of Wyandanch, another occupant of the GMC was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 3rd Degree. He is being held overnight at First District Court in Central Islip on February 4.

A few minutes later and a few miles down the road to the west, a 2014 Honda CRV, that had been reported stolen on January 28, 2022- crashed into a Walgreens store on Jericho Turnpike by Larkfield Rd in East Northport. Officials say the occupants fled the scene.

The investigations are ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Suffolk County Police Crime Stoppers.
