Off-duty NYPD officer shot in Queens, police say

NEW YORK (AP) — Police say an off-duty NYPD officer has been shot and taken to a hospital in stable condition. Police said the officer was shot Tuesday night in the Queens borough. He’s currently in surgery, but expected to survive. A public information officer did not have any more details. The shooting comes as New York police prepare to pay tribute to one of two young officers killed by gunfire while answering a call for help on Jan. 22 in Harlem. Officer Wilbert Mora’s funeral is set for Wednesday morning. Jason Rivera was eulogized and posthumously promoted to detective on Friday. The NYPD tweeted Tuesday night, telling people to avoid the area of Beach 62 Street and Beach Channel Drive in Queens.
