East Farmingdale, NY- The battle over masks inside schools isn’t over yet for two Long Island school districts. The Locust Valley and Massapequa districts have filed a lawsuit against New York State over the requirement that all persons inside schools must be wearing masks. Both districts had planned to make masks optional this school year, until the Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Department of Health issued guidance saying that masks would be required for all students, teachers, staff and visitors regardless of vaccination status. The Centers for Disease Control and the American Academy of Pediatrics currently recommend that masks be worn inside schools. The seven day COVID-19 positivity rate on Long Island from data released on Monday is at 4.1%.
