East Farmingdale, NY- Wednesday is the first day of class at some school districts across Long Island and for others its orientation day. Students, teachers, staff and parents will be required to wear masks inside schools across Long Island, including at the Locust Valley district which made some headlines after the board had considered a plan to go against the state rules but later rescinded.  New York State has provided schools with extra masks for those for anyone who show’s up unprepared.

On Tuesday, New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced that un-vaccinated teachers in New York state will soon have to undergo weekly COVID-19 testing.  Hochul also announced that regions will be able to lift mask mandates once infection numbers go down and vaccination rates go up.  The current 7 day COVID-19 positivity rate on Long Island is now at 4.38%.
