New Cassel, NY- A Hempstead man was arrested Sunday morning after police say he drove drunk and crashed into a utility pole with a child in the vehicle.
Just before 5am on Sunday, police say they got a 911 call of a crash on Brush Hollow Road near Sheridan Street. Upon arrival officers say they observed the driver, Jessel Martinez Barrera, 34 of Hempstead, appeared intoxicated. Two passengers were in the vehicle at the time of the collision, a 45-year-old woman and a 4-year-old girl. The woman and child were taken to an area hospital for treatment and observation. The child was uninjured. The driver, Jessel Martinez Barrera, 34, of Hempstead was placed under arrested and taken to an area hospital for treatment of injuries.
Barrera was charged with Aggravated DWI – Leandra’s Law, Driving While Intoxicated, Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Assault 3rd Degree.
