East Farmingdale, NY-  Police in Suffolk County are beefing up patrols for drunk drivers on the roads and in the waters surrounding Long Island this 4th of July holiday weekend.  Suffolk Police will be participating in a national campaign called #OperationDryWater, which aims to increase awareness and enforcement of boating while intoxicated.

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone said on Facebook, “after having to alter our celebrations last year during the pandemic, we are all looking forward to getting back to normal this July 4th, but we need to remember to celebrate safely this holiday weekend. That includes, leaving the booze on the shore”.

Police say not only will they be out in force on the Great South Bay and Long Island Sound throughout the holiday weekend- they’ll also be utilizing resources on land to monitor boat traffic and enforce BWI laws.
