Bethpage, NY- Several residents in Bethpage were evacuated from their homes in the middle of the night, after a nearby car crash caused a gas leak. Officials in Nassau County say a police officer from the Eighth Precinct on patrol discovered an accident involving a vehicle into a utility pole at the intersections of Central Park Avenue and Hicksville Road at approximately 12:57am on Tuesday, June 29th. Authorities say the officer smelled natural gas at the scene and began evacuating the immediate area, while also notifying National Grid and PSEG-LI. The Red Cross was notified and on scene with the Bethpage Fire Department to assist in the evacuation process. The residents were able to return to their homes just after 4am.
