County launches “Suffolk On-Demand” transit service for East End

East Farmingdale, NY- Public transportation on the East End of Suffolk County is evolving.  On Wednesday Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, announced a new partnership with Hampton Jitney and Via, to launch a “first-of-its-kind mobility service”, which will allow passengers to book rides on demand.  Suffolk Transit On-Demand, which launched earlier this month will provide five free rides per person through August 15, 2021.

Suffolk On-Demand is wheelchair accessible and will operate from 6:30am-8:30pm Monday through Friday.  Rides cost $2.25, with discounts available for children, students, seniors and persons with disabilities.  Passengers can book a ride on the Suffolk Transit On-Demand app or by calling 631-818-2982.

The app will offer in-app wellness checks to ensure passengers and drivers are symptom-free and ready to ride. Everyone on board will be required to wear a face mask or face covering. Vehicle capacity will be limited in accordance with social distancing guidelines, and vehicles will be professionally cleaned regularly.
