An East Rockaway man is under arrest on accusations of driving drunk, leaving the scene of one crash and then crashing through the fence of a school.
Police say 73-year-old took Edward Coghlan first crashed into a car in the parking lot of a Wendy’s in East Rockaway Wednesday afternoon. then drove through a chain link fence at Rhame Avenue Elementary School, driving erratically across the field at high speeds where about 80 kids were playing, he then fled the scene but was arrested a short time later.
No children were hurt. Coghlan has been charged with DWI, fourth-degree criminal mischief, reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child.
