NYPD officer from Smithtown expected to recover after being shot 3 times in Brooklyn

East Farmingdale, NY-  The NYPD said a police officer was shot three times in a gun battle with a man suspected in a fatal shooting.  Police Commissioner Dermot Shea said Thursday that the wounded officer, Brian McGurran, 28, of Smithtown, is expected to recover. Shea says two police officers and a sergeant were on patrol in Brooklyn late Wednesday night when shots were fired blocks away. Shea credits the McGurran’s bullet proof vest, with saving his life.
