Feds charge former LIRR employee with falsifying report

UNDATED (AP) — Federal authorities have charged a former New York commuter rail employee with falsifying a track inspection report a few weeks before two train cars derailed in 2019. A criminal complaint filed Thursday says Stuart Conklin logged a report claiming he had inspected a busy section of the Long Island Rail Road. But prosecutors say video footage from a LIRR camera showed that the signalman didn’t do checks that would have found dangerous defects. Conklin’s lawyer says he didn’t commit a crime.
