Groundhog Day- Holtsville Hal’s prediction

Groundhog Day- Holtsville Hal’s prediction

(Holtsville, NY)-  After a powerful nor’easter dumped about a foot of snow across Long Island, the Town of Brookhaven, canceled the 2021 Virtual Groundhog Day celebration at the Holtsville Ecology Site.  But as proven today, on Groundhog Day, nothing can stop Holtsville Hal.  Suffolk Counties most famous groundhog, Holtsville Hal, wouldn’t let a little snow stop him from doing the job that he was born to do- which is of course, predicting whether or not we will have an early spring.  According to Brookhaven Town Officials, “in the early morning hours of February 2nd, Holtsville Hal awoke from his slumber, brushed the snow aside to emerge from his burrow and did not see his shadow, predicting an early spring.” Brookhaven Superintendent of Highways Daniel Losquadro, “After this week’s storm, I’m sure we are all looking forward to an early spring and keeping our fingers crossed that our resident weatherman maintains his accuracy,” also adding, “Regardless, the Brookhaven Highway Department remains ready to handle whatever else Mother Nature decides to send our way.”
