SPCA offer advice for pet safety during storm

(East Farmingdale, NY)-  The Suffolk County SPCA has issued a reminder ahead of the storm that it is illegal to leave your dog in a pen or tied up outside, in any manner, when the temperature is below 32 degrees Fahrenheit, they say this law will be enforced.  SPCA is also reminding residents to make sure their pets have on proper ID tags and walk them on a leash because many pets can lose their sense of smell during a storm and get lost. Some outdoor cats and other animals could seek shelter in your engine, SPCA suggests honking your horn or banging on the hood of your vehicle before you start your engine.  For older dogs or dogs with short hair, they recommend sweaters or coats and even boots.  For outdoor rabbits, they suggest covering the bunny hutch with a tarp and provide extra food, water and plenty of bedding.
