(East Farmingdale, NY)- The Long Island Rail Road has has over 978,000 pounds of de-icing material and various other snow fighting equipment but are still warning customers that they may need to modify or suspend service if the winter storm that’s headed our way, brings more than it can handle. The LIRR says on their website that some of the conditions that would prompt modified service or suspension include; sustained winds over 39 miles per hour, blizzard conditions, ice storms, frozen switches or a loss to third rail power.
For more information on how winter weather can affect LIRR service, see the LIRR’s Guide to Winter Weather Travel here.
