State warns of increased restrictions if viral cases continue to increase

(East Farmingdale, NY)- Governor Andrew Cuomo, has ordered hospitals across New York State to increase bed capacity by 25%.  Cuomo also called for retired doctors and nurses to return to service at a press conference on Monday and warned that if hospitalization rates continue to increase. indoor dining could be cut.  The state also unveiled a new metric for monitoring the coronavirus hospitalizations called the Surge and Flex plan.  And the Governor warned that if a regions 7 day average shows that it will hit 90% hospital capacity in 3 weeks, that region will be placed back on NY Pause.  The 7 day average for positive covid cases in Suffolk is now at 6.1%, lower in Nassau at 4.9%. State hospitalization data for December 6th finds 4,602 patients on Long Island are currently hospitalized with COVID of which 872 are in ICU beds.  That’s a 162 person increase in covid hospitalization from the previous day and a 22 person increase in ICU beds from the previous days data.
