(East Farmingdale, NY)- Two East End communities are struggling with high coronavirus infection rates. On Thursday, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone announced that voluntary rapid COVID-19 testing would begin at schools in Riverhead and Hampton Bays. In Riverhead, the 7 day positivity rate was at 5.6 and in Hampton Bays 6.5%.
The current seven day rolling average for all of Long Island combined is still below 4%. A 7 day rolling average of a 9% infection rate, could trigger school closing across Long Island.
