Holbrook man sentenced in crash that killed Boy Scout

FILE - This Feb. 4, 2013 file photo shows a close up of a Boy Scout uniform badge during a news conference in front of the Boy Scouts of America headquarters in Irving, Texas. Victims of childhood sex abuse suing the Boy Scouts of America in New Jersey, New York, California and a handful of other states that loosened their statutes of limitations in 2019 will effectively face an earlier deadline to press claims because of a date set in federal bankruptcy proceedings. On the two year anniversary of the Manorville crash that killed a Boy Scout, a Riverhead judge sentenced the driver, 61-year-old Thomas Murphy of Holbrook, to eight and a third to 25 years in prison.

Murphy was convicted in December of Driving While Intoxicated and crashing into a group of Boy Scouts who were out hiking on David Terry Road on September 30, 2018.  12-year-old Boy Scout, Andrew McMorris of Wading River, died on October 1, 2018, from injuries sustained in the collision.
