Smithtown: Police investigate crash on Jericho

Update 10:45am 9/29/20:  Following an investigation, police located the driver in the vicinity of the Fourth Precinct in Hauppauge on September 29 at approximately 8 a.m. Christopher Steiner, 21, of Port Jefferson, was arrested and charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Property Damage.


Suffolk County Police are investigating a single vehicle crash that occurred in Smithtown on Monday, September 28 at approximately 11:40 p.m.  Officials say a car was travelling eastbound on Route 25, near Old Willets Path, when it left the roadway, hit the guardrail, struck and severed a utility pole and came to a stop in a ditch off the roadway. The vehicle caught fire and became fully engulfed. Members of the Smithtown Fire Department extinguished the fire. No occupants were found in the vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.
