An early morning crash caused big delays Thursday on the L.I.E.

Long Island commuters faced big delays Thursday morning on the Long Island Expressway after police closed all lanes westbound in Melville by Route 110 because of a serious motor vehicle accident.  Suffolk County Police say around 3:15AM on Thursday, August 27, 2020, Alex Sahastume-Rivera was driving a 2020 Jeep Wrangler westbound on the Long Island Expressway near exit 48 when the vehicle left the roadway and overturned.  Keith Tito, a passenger in the backseat, was ejected from the vehicle. Tito, 22, of East Elmhurst, Queens was transported to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow in serious but stable condition. Sahastume-Rivera, 22, of Jackson Heights, Queens and Tristan Villafama, 22, of Corona, Queens, a front seat passenger, were transported to the same hospital with minor injuries.  The roadway was reopened around 7:00AM.  Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
