Pedestrian seriously injured in early morning hit-and-run crash on Sunrise Highway

A pedestrian was seriously injured Tuesday morning in a hit-and-run crash on Sunrise Highway in North Amityville.  Suffolk Police say they reported to a 9-1-1 call of an injured pedestrian on westbound Sunrise Highway just west of Bayview Aveue at 1:34 a.m. When officers arrived on the scene, they found an injured man lying in the roadway.  Police say the 30-year-old victim, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip in serious condition. Following an investigation, detectives determined the man was struck by a motor vehicle that fled the scene.
