Farmingville mom arrested for DWI Under Leandra’s Law after crash

Authorities say a Farmingville mother was caught driving drunk Wednesday night with her kid in the car.  Suffolk Police say on August 12, 2020, around 11 p. m., 35 year old Danielle Smith was driving a 2012 Jeep Liberty westbound on Barrets Avenue in Holtsville, when she crashed into a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado, that was heading southbound and stopped at a traffic light on Waverly Avenue.  Police say Smith’s nine month old child was in the vehicle with her at the time of the crash.  Smith and her child were not injured.  The driver of the Chevrolet, 25 year old Doug Viola, of Holbrook, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.  Smith was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger 15-Years-Old or Younger (Leandra’s Law), Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation.  The child was released to the custody of a family member at the precinct.
