2 year old from St. James critically injured in Nesconset crash

A two year old St. James boy is in critical condition after a crash in Nesconset on Monday night.  Suffolk Police say the boys father, 50 year old Kevin Cavooris, was driving eastbound on Middle Country Rd near Cambon Place just before 5 p. m., when he was rear ended by a man driving a 2018 Dodge Ram pick up truck.  The boy, his four year old brother and father were transported to Stony Brook University Hospital. The driver of the pick up truck, David Mascarella, 50, of Port Jefferson, self-transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore with minor injuries.  Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.
