Two men rescue St. James woman from fiery Hauppauge crash

Authorities say a 45 year old St. James woman was arrested Wednesday night after driving drunk and crashing into a utility pole in Hauppauge.  Cops say her vehicle caught on fire after crashing and two men rescued her from the burning vehicle. The accident happened just after 10pm on July 29th at the intersection of Wheeler Road and Marlo Lane.  According to police Melanie Lhommedieu was driving her 2009 BMW southbound on Wheeler Road when she crossed a double yellow line and crashed.  Two men in a vehicle traveling behind the BMW witnessed the crash and pulled over to offer assistance.  No one was injured.  Lhommedieu of 280 7th Avenue, St. James, , was arrested and charged with DWI, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 1st Degree, and multiple traffic violations. She is being held overnight at the Fourth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on July 30.
