a fake-ID scheme among Long Island Rail Road employees that allegedly allowed dozens of workers to collect inflated overtime pay.

According to the MTA at least 36 LIRR employees used counterfeit or cloned ID swipe cards to clock in and out of shifts they never worked. Some of the workers reportedly earned up to three times more overtime pay than their peers, with one foreman bringing in more than $340,000 last year.

The fraudulent activity is believed to have spanned several LIRR facilities between 2021 and 2024. Investigators say certain supervisors were aware of — and may have participated in — the scheme.

MTA officials have confirmed that disciplinary actions are underway and that the case has been referred to law enforcement for possible criminal prosecution.
