The Homicide Squad is investigating a fatal workplace accident that occurred late Thursday night at a commercial laundry facility in Garden City.
According to detectives, officers responded to Arrow Linen Supply Company Inc., located at 615 South Street, at approximately 10:14 p.m. on October 23, 2025, for reports of an employee who had fallen into a trash compactor.
Upon arrival, officers found a male victim who had sustained severe injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead by a hospital physician.
The victim has been identified as Michael Rutledge, 42, of Baldwin.
Authorities say the investigation is ongoing. The Homicide Squad is working in conjunction with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
