AAA says Suffolk County has the third-highest number of deer-related crashes in New York State — and the number of vehicles hitting deer on Long Island is the highest it’s been since 2018.

According to AAA Northeast, there were 1,555 recorded animal crashes in Suffolk County last year, compared to 172 in Nassau. Officials say the majority of these accidents involve deer, and that nearly half of all deer crashes occur between October and December, when mating season is at its peak.

AAA is reminding motorists to stay alert, especially at dawn and dusk, when deer are most active.
