The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the Nassau County Police Department’s use of helicopter at Jones Beach last week.
The low-flying helicopter was used to break up a crowd of around 500 teenagers who gathered at Jones Beach for an unofficial “Senior Cut Day.”
The FAA released a statement, saying no pilot may operate an aircraft below an altitude where, if the engine fails, an emergency landing cannot be made without creating an undue hazard to people or property on the surface.
