Nassau DA wants to end ‘cashless bail’ for some animal abuse cases

Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly wants to end cashless bail in some animal abuse cases giving judges more power in punishing the most brutal offenders of crimes against animals. Under current New York State law, prosecutors cannot ask for bail in animal cruelty cases. Donnelly argues that giving judges the discretion to set bail could act as a deterrent.
