News Headlines: Tuesday, June 23rd 2020

  • Alarming surges in coronavirus cases across the U.S. South and West are raising fears that the outbreak is spiraling out of control. Cases surpassed 100,000 in Florida on Monday. Hospitalizations are rising dramatically in Houston. And more than 20% of those tested in Arizona were positive for COVID-19.
  • In NY on Sunday the state tested over 56 thousand people and less than 1 percent tested positive.  Governor Cuomo on Monday said that he is talking with the Governors of NJ and CT to possibly consider issuing quarantine orders for out of state visitors.
  • Long Island enters Phase 3 of reopening, Wednesday.
  • Today, Tuesday June 23rd….  is Primary day in NY… voting locations across the state will be open.  Polls close at 9pm.
  • On Monday, peaceful protesters gathered in Smithtown and marched for George Floyd and black lives matters…. Today they will gather in Garden City, by the train station.  Also on Monday, hundreds gathered in Port Jefferson to show support for the police.

  • Apple is rolling out a new operating system, known as iOS 14. It will have ways to help users manage their apps better — and an upgrade for Siri.
