Today is Juneteenth, the holiday celebrating the day in 1865 that all enslaved black people learned they had been freed from bondage. Juneteenth is now a state holiday in New York… and also a day of protest. … Long Islanders will gather today in towns including… Amityville, Valley Stream, Hicksville, Freeport, Port Jeff Manhasset, east meadow Shirley, Mineola and Montauk.
