News Headlines: Monday, June 8th 2020

  • Thousands of people spent their weekend… marching across Long Island to protest racism and police brutality…  Protests were held ALL OVER THE ISLAND- from East Hampton, to Rockville Center.
  • Monday begins a big week of moving forward in New York…. Today, NYC enters phase 1 of reopening today… The Mid-Hudson Valley is still on track to enter Phase 2 on Tuesday, Long Island is scheduled to start phase 2 on Wednesday, June 10th
  • The MTA is reminding riders to wear masks on board busses, trains and subways.  The MTA says they have 2 million masks that they will be distributing… LIRR staff and volunteers… will be offering riders a free mask, if they don’t have one.
  • Governor Cuomo on Sunday, announced some big news for graduates this weekend… saying that Outdoor, socially distanced graduation ceremonies of up to 150 people will be allowed beginning June 26th. The Governor also said that they will be dedicating 15 coronavirus testing sites in the city… to protesters.
  • Congressional Democrats are expected to announce the Justice in Policing Act on Monday… which they say, would overhaul legal protections for police and set new standards for police training.
  • Travelers to Britain are now being required to go into quarantine for two weeks to halt the further spread of COVID-19
  • Tropical Storm Cristobal is forecast to move inland in Louisiana through Monday, before moving north and into Canada on Wednesday.
