According to the Texas Department of Public Safety a crash involving three vehicles on US Highway 54 around 9:30 Tuesday morning killed one man, injured two other people.
It happened when Gary Nelson, 81, of Dalhart was towing a pickup with his truck and they came up on the back of a Semi. Nelson took action to avoid hitting the Semi causing the truck he was towing to fishtail. 32-year-old Chance Massey was in the truck being towed. Both trucks then traveled into the opposite lanes of US 54 where they were struck by a truck being driven by 70-year-old Robert Spielman of Dalhart.
Nelson was transported to Coon Memorial Hospital in Dalhart with minor injuries. Massey was transported to Northwest Hospital in Amarillo with serious injuries. Spielman was taken to Coon Memorial Hospital in Dalhart where he was later pronounced dead.
