WATCH: Woman rescued from Long Island Sound

Shoreham, NY-  A Sayville woman was rescued from the Long Island Sound in Shoreham on Sunday morning. Suffolk County Police say a woman called 911 at approximately 6:50am to report that she had lost sight of her friend, a 21-year-old woman from Sayville, that had gone swimming in the water off Shoreham Beach.  The Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau, Aviation Section and Wading River Fire Department coordinated efforts and located the woman about a mile off shore.  A police helicopter dropped a flotation device to the woman, who was then transported by boat to shore and then to a local hospital for evaluation.
