Getting ready for New Year’s Eve

Workers have installed the New Year’s Eve ball that will drop in Times Square on Dec. 31.  The ball is a 12-foot geodesic sphere covered with 2,688 crystal triangles of various sizes It weighs five tons and has 32,256 LED lights.

The pandemic-limited celebration that will lack the usual tightly packed crowds in Time Square and performances at the event will be designed for TV audiences watching from home.
