Happy Birthday to the Incoming Gov

New York's Governor-elect Andrew Cuomo turned 53 years old this week- take a look at his fabulous cake! It sure pays to have a girlfriend who's a Food Network star, doesn't it?

We actually don't know if Cuomo's girlfriend Sandra Lee made the cake- or maybe she called in a favor from the Cake Boss? Either way, we're just sorry the photo doesn't show Long Island!

By the way, a new poll of New Yorkers finds that 82% of registered voters statewide don't believe that Cuomo will be able to solve the state's fiscal problems without raising taxes, despite his promise to the contrary. He has his work cut out for him.

Oops...Political Confusion!

Did you know that Hugh Carey was a Democrat?

Thanks to the listener who called in and cleared up my confusion this morning. The former governor of New York state (from 1975-1982) was in the news today for endorsing Andrew Cuomo, and I mistakenly identified him as a Republican. I believe I was thinking of one of his predecessors, Nelson Rockefeller- though actually, with Rockefeller's liberal leanings, it would have been understandable if I'd mistaken him as a Democrat!

I'm also hearing from a lot of listeners who can't wait until political season is over. They say their mailboxes, phones and airwaves need a break, understandably. Don't forget to vote on November 2nd!

In other old business, thanks to Linda Esposito for explaining what Zumba is. Linda attends Zumba classes at Powerhouse Gym in East Setauket and says it's the perfect workout for dance lovers and the "best workout you will ever have." Thanks Linda!
