Mineola - (WALK) Three Long Island men are accused of stealing prescription drugs from five pharmacies during an eight-day crime wave in Nassau County. Police say the suspects planned to sell their stolen stash for cash.
The suspects, Casey Arena, 19, of Cloister Lane, Hicksville, Steven Rose, 20, of Cottage Boulevard, Hicksville, and Steven Cross, 21, of Lenoz Avenue East Meadow, are accused of robbing drugstores in Locust Valley, Glen Head, Hicksville, East Meadow and North Merrick.
The crime wave crashed when police spotted Arena inside Glen Head Pharmacy on Glen Cove Road early Monday morning. Arena tried to run but was apprehended, according to Nassau Police.
Rose and Cross attempted to drive away, but were stopped by Old Brookville Police. Cross was allegedly driving the getaway car, and nearly struck an Old Brookville police officer while attempting to escape, said police.
Cross is charged with reckless endangerment, burglary and criminal possession of a controlled substance. Rose and Arena are each charged with burgalry and criminal possession of a controlled substance. The suspects were scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
