Yaphank - (WALK) Suffolk police didn't have far to travel to pay a call on three alleged marijuana growers. Police, sheriff's deputies and U.S. Marshals raided a home in Yaphank Monday, not far from the SCPD headquarters on Yaphank Avenue.
Law enforcement officers used a battering ram to enter the alleged "grow-house" on Horseblock Road, Yaphank, and say the suspects had converted two bedrooms into marijuana growing environments, equipped with automatic feeding, watering and ventilation systems. Approximately 130 marijuana plants were seized, according to the Suffolk sheriff's department.
Police recovered approximately a kilo (2.2 lbs) of marijuana, described as packaged and ready for sale. The suspects, Michael Smith, 40, of Yaphank; Jason Rowett, 38, of Patchogue, and Ralph Rowett, 41, of Queens, are charged with criminal possession of marijuana, and may face additional charges.
