Albertson (WALK) - A man is in the hospital after he was shot by Nassau police in a confrontation near his home Wednesday morning.
Police were sent to Netz Place in Albertson shortly before 10:30 AM when someone called 911 to report being threatened by a man with a gun. The officers then spotted Brian Reilly, who lives on that street and met the description of the gunman, and ordered him to show his hands. Instead, Reilly allegedly pulled what looked like a black handgun out of his waistband and pointed it at the police.
The officers says they then pulled out their own service weapons and opened fire. Reilly was struck three times, in the legs and right hand. His wounds turned out not to be life-threatening, and investigators later discovered that his weapon was a BB handgun, according to detectives.
Reilly is still in the hospital. Police plan to charge him with menacing and weapons possession before he is discharged.
