New Hyde Park (WALK) - A Nassau County cop is in the hospital after being shot in the line of duty last night.
The officer, whose name has not been released, was answering a 911 call about a burglary in process on Campbell Street in New Hyde Park when he was shot. His partner reportedly rushed him to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, where he is in critical but stable condition after having surgery.
Two suspects are under arrest. Police believe they have all suspects in custody, they say.
The wounded officer has not been identified but he is described as 32 years old and a 6-year veteran of the Nassau County Police department.
The house where the break-in took place had apparently been targeted, according to investgators who are still on the scene.
The incident led to the closure of part of Lakeville Road for much of the morning, between Union Turnpike and Hillside Avenue.
