Lindenhurst - (WALK) A Long Island high school teacher and coach is accused of being in possession of anabolic steroids, according to Suffolk police.
Kevin Muscarello, 40, of Sayville, is a physical education teacher and varsity boy's volleyball coach at Lindenhurst High School. He was arrested Sunday morning after being pulled over by police while driving on Vanderbilt Motor Parkway near Commack Road in Dix Hills at about 11:00 a.m.
Muscarello is charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, according to prosecutors. School district officials reassigned Muscarello pending outcome of his case, and say there is no reason to believe Muscarello distributed steroids to students.
Muscarello is an 11-year employee of the school district, and reportedly led the Lindenhurst boy's volleyball team to the New York State Division 1 finals last year. His salary during the fiscal year 2011-12 was $87,384, according to state records.
